Planning a private yacht charter in New York City? Here are the answers to the questions guests ask most. If something isn’t covered here, our concierge team is a phone call away: 917-399-9084.
Before Your Private Yacht Charter
Where does the private yacht depart from?
Dream Boat NY departs from Pier 59 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan — one of the most convenient marina locations in the city. Pier 59 sits right on the Hudson River, steps from the High Line, Chelsea Market, and Little Island, with easy access from Midtown, Downtown, and the West Village.
For car service and taxi drop-off, ask your driver for 59 Chelsea Piers, New York, NY 10011, then follow the Google Maps walking directions to the boat marina entrance: https://goo.gl/maps/LHUo1cNDYwr9KNyT6 — the marina entrance isn’t immediately visible from the street, so the link saves time.
For guests driving in, valet parking is available on-site at Chelsea Piers (paid parking). After parking, use the same Google Maps link to walk to the marina. Note that Chelsea Piers does not offer complimentary parking.
How do I book a private charter?
Booking is available through the online booking calendar at dreamboatny.com/pricing/. Choose your date, time, duration, and any add-on catering packages. If you have questions before booking or want help selecting the right charter, call or text the concierge team at 917-399-9084 — they can walk you through every option.
How far in advance should I book?
During peak season (May through September), especially on weekends and at sunset, charters book two to four weeks ahead. The further out the date — particularly for special occasions like proposals, anniversaries, and milestone birthdays — the better. Last-minute availability does sometimes exist, especially on weekday mornings or during the shoulder season (April, October, and November). For World Cup and other major NYC event dates, book as early as possible.
What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?
Dream Boat NY offers two booking options:
Standard: Reservations are non-refundable. If the captain must postpone due to weather conditions, rescheduling is complimentary — simply choose any available charter of equal or lesser value within the same calendar year.
Premium (Travel Protection Plan): Cancel for any reason up to 30 days before departure for a full refund (minus the Premium plan fee). Reschedule once for any reason up to 48 hours before departure. Inside 48 hours, only the captain may reschedule based on real-time weather radar. If the captain postpones due to weather, guests may choose to reschedule or receive a full refund (minus the Premium plan fee).
The Travel Protection Plan is available to add during booking.
What if I’m running late?
The captain will wait. That said, your charter is scheduled to conclude on time so the next guests can board, which means late arrivals result in a shorter cruise — there are no refunds or rescheduling for late starts. Plan to arrive at the dock five minutes before your scheduled departure. The vessel typically departs approximately five minutes past the scheduled start time.
What should guests wear?
A private yacht charter is an outdoor activity. Flat, non-slip shoes are strongly recommended on deck. Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and season. On cooler days — particularly in spring and fall — bring a layer for the outdoor deck. Sunscreen is a good idea in the summer months.
About the Private Yacht
How many guests are allowed on the private charter?
A maximum of six (6) guests per charter, as required by U.S. Coast Guard federal licensing regulations. This limit includes children and infants — there are no exceptions. Dream Boat NY specializes exclusively in intimate private charters for groups of two to six, which is the core of what makes the experience feel private, unhurried, and genuinely personal rather than a crowded group tour.
What is included in every charter?
Every private yacht charter includes:
- The vessel exclusively for your group (no other guests, no strangers)
- Outdoor all-teak deck with U-shaped seating
- Retractable canopy over the deck for full shade or full sun
- Indoor wood-paneled cabin lounge with deep-cushioned white upholstery and table seating for six
- Modern bathroom with personal cloth hand towels
- Kitchenette for crew food and beverage service
- Bluetooth sound system (connect your own playlist)
- Complimentary bottled water for all guests
- Professional USCG-certified captain
- All Chelsea Piers docking and boarding fees and fuel
- Complete route planning and coordination
- Photo opportunities at iconic landmarks throughout the cruise
Can guests play their own music?
Absolutely. Connect your playlist directly to the yacht’s Bluetooth speakers and make the cruise your own. Guests often tell us it’s one of their favorite details — your own music against the backdrop of the Manhattan skyline is something special.
Is the yacht climate-controlled?
No. The indoor cabin is a fully enclosed lounge that provides excellent shelter from wind and weather, but it does not have heating or air conditioning. It’s a beautiful, wood-paneled space — cozy and comfortable — but the main seating is on deck. When we’re at the dock, we’re able to plug into shore power and adjust the interior temperature, keeping the cabin comfortable without climate control.
Is there a bathroom on the boat?
Yes. The yacht has a clean, modern bathroom with personal cloth hand towels for guests.
Is the yacht the same as a large tour boat or public cruise?
Not at all. At 40 feet in length, Dream Boat NY is the opposite of a large public tour boat. Large tour boats carry 100 to 300 strangers on a fixed schedule with loud PA systems, crowds competing for deck space, and no personalization. Dream Boat NY’s private charter is exclusively for your group of two to six — no other guests, no strangers, no fixed narration script, and no rushing. The captain adapts the route to what you want to see, at a pace that lets you actually take it all in. Guests frequently describe it as the best part of their entire trip to New York.
Routes & Sightseeing
Will guests see the Statue of Liberty?
Yes — unless you don’t want to. Up-close viewing of Lady Liberty is a feature of all standard charter routes: the 2-Hour Highlights Tour, the 3-Hour Extnded Tour, the 3.5-Hour Full Manhattan Circumnavigation, and the 4-Hour Comprehensive Tour. The one exception is the Fall Foliage Cruise, which takes a specific northern route to the Palisade Cliffs and Hudson Valley.
What are the tour route options?
Dream Boat NY offers four standard durations, each with flexible route options:
2-Hour Highlights Tour ($700–$850) — Perfect for first-time visitors or guests with limited time. Departs Chelsea Piers heading south on the Hudson, into New York Harbor for Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island viewing, around Battery Park and the Financial District, and returns via the Hudson River or East River (Brooklyn Bridge route). The captain tailors the return based on timing, lighting, and guest interests.
3-Hour Comprehensive Tour ($1,200) — The most popular duration. Three route options are available: (1) Hudson River North to the George Washington Bridge, passing Midtown and Upper Manhattan; (2) East River to Brooklyn, including the Brooklyn Bridge, Dumbo, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and Williamsburg waterfront; (3) NY Harbor Exploration to the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and a comprehensive southern harbor experience. All three-hour tours include extended time at major landmarks.
3.5-Hour Full Manhattan Circumnavigation ($1,400) — The complete loop around Manhattan Island. Guests see the southern harbor and Statue of Liberty, then up the East River past all the major bridges (Brooklyn, Manhattan, Williamsburg, Queensboro), through the Harlem River Ship Canal — a hidden gem most visitors never see — and back down the Hudson River past the Midtown skyline and Hudson Yards. Locals who’ve lived in New York for decades describe this as a revelation.
4-Hour Extended Tour ($1,600) — Maximum time on the water. Options include the full Manhattan loop plus extended Statue of Liberty time, combined sightseeing and dining, a day-to-night cruise timed for sunset and the illuminated evening skyline, or fully custom ambitious routes.
For complete route details, see all private boat tours.
Can guests customize the route?
Yes, and the private format is what makes this possible. Before departure, share your priorities with the captain — specific landmarks, photography goals, timing preferences. The captain can adjust the route mid-cruise as well. This flexibility is simply not available on a public tour boat.
What landmarks will guests see?
Depending on the route and duration, guests typically see: the Statue of Liberty (from multiple angles), Ellis Island, the New York Harbor, Governor’s Island, Battery Park and the Financial District, One World Trade Center, the Brooklyn Bridge, Manhattan Bridge, Williamsburg Bridge, Queensboro Bridge, the UN Headquarters, Roosevelt Island, Brooklyn’s waterfront neighborhoods (Dumbo, Brooklyn Heights, Williamsburg), the George Washington Bridge, Hudson Yards, the Midtown skyline, the Palisade Cliffs of New Jersey, and — on the full circumnavigation — the Harlem River Ship Canal and the Bronx shore.
Weather & Seasonal Questions
What happens if it rains?
If rain can’t be avoided, the captain will reschedule the charter. Rescheduling is complimentary — guests simply select any available charter of equal or lesser value within the same calendar year.
A note on weather forecasts: New York is a coastal city, and forecasts along the coast change constantly. Weathercasters frequently predict rain that doesn’t materialize. The captain monitors real-time radar in the two hours before departure to make the final call. Don’t cancel based on a forecast alone — let the captain assess actual conditions closer to the time.
What is the operating season?
Dream Boat NY operates April through November. Peak season runs May through September, when the weather is warmest and demand is highest. The shoulder season — April, October, and November — offers beautiful conditions, often with less competition for dates and a quieter, more atmospheric experience on the water.
What time should guests book for a sunset cruise?
The online booking calendar automatically shows departure times calibrated to catch the sunset over the water. Sunset times shift throughout the season, so the calendar does the math. For the most spectacular golden hour views over the Hudson, the sunset cruise is one of Dream Boat NY’s signature experiences.
Is it safe to be on the water in cool weather?
Yes. The fully enclosed interior cabin provides comfortable shelter from wind and colder air, making spring and fall cruises entirely enjoyable even when temperatures are cooler on deck. Dress in layers and the crew will keep everyone comfortable.
Children, Guests & Safety
Are children welcome on a private charter?
Absolutely. Children of all ages are welcome aboard. Per New York State law, children 13 years of age and younger are required to wear a USCG-approved life jacket at all times. Life jackets are available onboard in all sizes, including for young children. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who is solely responsible for their supervision at all times.
Are pets allowed?
Service animals are welcome. Pets are not permitted. Open water presents significant hazards for animals — the harbor’s currents and tides make retrieval extremely difficult if a pet goes overboard.
Will guests get seasick?
Very rarely. The Hudson River is typically calm, and the yacht is steady on the water. However, New York Harbor can get bumpy, particularly on windy days. Guests who have experienced motion sickness in the past or who are sensitive to movement should take motion sickness medication before departure.
Is boating safe? What are the safety measures?
Dream Boat NY’s captains are USCG-certified. Every charter includes full safety equipment and USCG-approved life jackets in all sizes. Wearing a life jacket is optional for guests over 13 (though recommended) and required by New York State law for guests 13 and under.
What ID is required to board?
A valid government-issued photo ID — either a passport or a U.S. driver’s license — matching the credit card used to book must be provided before any guest may board.
Food, Beverages & Catering
Is food and drink available on the charter?
Yes. Dream Boat NY offers a full catering menu available to pre-order before departure. Guests step aboard to find everything ready and waiting.

For the complete catering menu and ordering, visit the catering page.
Can guests bring their own food and drinks?
Guests may bring their own food and beverages. A $100 BYO fee applies and the option can be selected during booking.
What is the alcohol service policy?
Per New York State Liquor Authority regulations and U.S. Coast Guard requirements, if guests become unsafe due to alcohol consumption, the captain is required to limit alcohol service and return to the dock immediately. Responsible enjoyment is part of what makes the experience safe and memorable for everyone.
Items & Decorations
What items are not allowed onboard?
The following are not permitted aboard the yacht: pets, smoking, vaping, open flames, glass, red wine, hard shell coolers, illegal drugs, sharp objects, and weapons. Service animals are welcome.
Can guests bring their own decorations?
Guests are welcome to bring personal decorations. Check with the captain first — any decoration that could create a hazard for passengers, crew, the environment, or the vessel is not permitted. Dream Boat NY’s celebration and decoration packages are a convenient alternative and are fully prepared by the crew before guests board.
Pricing & Gratuity
What are the charter rates?
Charter pricing is per boat (not per person), covering your entire private group of two to six guests:
- 2 Hours: $700 (weekdays, 2 guests) / $800 (weekdays, 3–6 guests) / $800 (weekday sunsets) / $850 (weekends and holidays)
- 3 Hours: $1,200
- 3.5 Hours: $1,400 (Full Manhattan Circumnavigation)
- 4 Hours: $1,600
Catering, celebration packages, and beverages are available to add and are priced separately. Visit pricing for more information.
Is gratuity included?
Gratuity is not included in the charter rate. A customary gratuity of 18–22% for the captain and crew is appreciated and accepted in cash, card, or payment app.
What is the per-person value?
Per-person costs depend on group size. At the 2-hour weekday rate with a full group of six, the per-person cost comes to approximately $133. With four guests on a 3-hour charter, it’s $300 per person. Private yacht pricing is generally most economical when shared across a group — the rate is per boat, not per person.
Booking & Policies
What are the policies around alcohol?
Guests at least 21 years old are welcome to enjoy alcoholic beverages onboard. Excessive alcohol consumption on a yacht is both unsafe and against U.S. Coast Guard and NY State regulations.
Are there any age restrictions?
Guests of all ages are welcome. Children under 13 are required by New York State law to wear a life jacket at all times. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who is solely responsible for their supervision.
Where can I review the full terms and conditions?
Complete terms and conditions — including boarding requirements, weather policy, alcohol policy, and liability information — are available on the policy page.
