Should I hire a photographer?

Friend as photographer: If bringing friends/family, someone can photograph. Better than phone photos, but they might miss experiencing the moment themselves.

Professional photographer: Highest quality results, captures everything expertly, provides engagement announcement photos. Most expensive option.

Our take: Even imperfect photos are better than no photos. At minimum, hand your phone to the crew. If photo quality matters greatly or you’re planning elaborate announcements, consider professional photography worth the investment.

What are “forever roses”?

The Rose Bouquet add-on ($150) features two dozen real roses that have been delicately preserved to last an entire year without water, wilting, or maintenance.

How they work: Real roses are treated with a special preservation process that maintains their beauty, softness, and appearance for 12 months. They look and feel like fresh roses but last indefinitely.

Why choose them: Every time she looks at the bouquet over the next year, she remembers your proposal. It’s a lasting physical reminder of this moment, unlike fresh roses that wilt within a week.

Presentation: Comes in an elegant gift box, perfect for presenting immediately after she says yes or waiting aboard the yacht as a surprise.

Do I need to tip the crew?

Gratuity is not included in charter pricing. 18-22% is customary for excellent service, and the captain and crew work hard to make your proposal perfect. Prepay, add to the credit card after the charter, or hand the captain cash directly at the end of the cruise is all sincerely appreciated.

Can I combine the Love Boat and Surprise Proposal packages?

No, they’re designed as alternative approaches. Choose one based on your proposal style:

  • Love Boat: Grand, visible romantic gesture from arrival
  • Surprise Proposal: Hidden setup with dramatic reveal moment

However, you can add the Rose Bouquet ($150) to either package for the lasting keepsake of preserved roses.

What happens if she says no?

In 30+ years, this has never happened on our yacht. Not once.

But hypothetically: Our crew would be discrete, professional, and kind. We’d complete the charter normally, giving you both whatever space or support felt appropriate. Obviously, this would be awkward for everyone, but our crew has the maturity and professionalism to handle any situation with grace.

Realistically: If you’re this committed to creating a perfect proposal, you already know your answer. Trust yourself.

Can the captain officiate if we want to elope?

Glad you asked! The captain is not licensed to officiate, and NY State requires you both to obtain a wedding license at least 24 hours in advance.
